The Salt River is a small spring creek fed river flowing through the pastoral Star Valley, south of Jackson. This picturesque river winds its way through the willow lined banks of old ranches and is most productively fished from a boat. This is the best way to access the deeply undercut bends of this river.

Besides the scenery, Snake River Finespot cutthroat and brown trout are the main attractions here. Typically, it isn't necessary to match the hatch and attractor patterns with a nymph dropper will do. This can change in the fall as the BWO’s hatch and the fish become more selective. This river does receive a run of large migratory browns in the fall from Palisades Reservoir, so throwing streamers and big nymphs can be rewarding.
