The world famous South Fork is just a short drive over Teton Pass to Idaho from the ranch. It is home to both the Snake River and Yellowstone cutthroat, as well as rainbow and brown trout, some of which reach trophy size. This river is larger than the Upper Snake in Jackson and runs mostly in one main stem with a few side channels for wading. Fish per mile counts are the best in the region.

Hatches are prolific on the South Fork! Salmonflies and Golden Stoneflies start the year off in late June and July. Imagine a huge brown trout crushing your size #4 Salmonfly and then screaming off into the strong currents of the South Fork! Evening caddis hatches are strong in early summer and then the PMD's start popping and more time is spent fishing the riffles with smaller flies. This lasts through July and into August before the fishing becomes more bank-focused with terrestrials and attractor patterns. Streamer fishing is always a good idea on the South Fork. In the fall fish feast on Mahogany Duns and Blue Winged Olive’s before winter arrives.
Trips to the South Fork require an early start and include a scenic drive over Teton Pass into Idaho. A separate Idaho fishing license is also required. These trips are offered in conjunction with the Lodge at Palisades Creek.
