Upper Snake River
Upper Snake River
The Snake River flows for over 70 miles through the Jackson Hole valley and the Crescent H has the permits to fish all of it. Let us take you on a float through Grand Teton National Park as the Snake winds its way beneath the majestic Teton Range. The river here is often braided into many side channels, offering many opportunities to stop and wade fish. The fish in this river system are native Snake River Finespot Cutthroats that were isolated in these drainages after the last ice age thousands of years ago.

Upper Snake RiverAfter the river leaves the park sections, it rejoins into one main stem with a few smaller side channels, as it flows through the Snake River Canyon in the Bridger Teton National Forest. Most of the fishing is done from the boat, but there are a few opportunities to wade fish as well. There are more fish per mile in these sections of river than there are in the park.

The Snake River fishes well before runoff from March through April and then late June through November, with the best months typically being August through October after the flows have receded. Summertime brings surface action with Stoneflies, Caddis, PMD’s, and terrestrials. We do have a fall Stonefly emergence followed by Drakes and Mahogany Duns that keep the fish on top as the cottonwoods start to change color.

The Upper Snake is very close to the ranch, but some sections do require a short drive. A Wyoming fishing license is sufficient for fishing in Grand Teton National Park. The Crescent H Ranch is an authorized Concessionaire of the National Park Service and licensed permittee of the Bridger Teton National Forest.
